"The Dirty Guv’nahs menu is pretty short, simple and direct: a heaping of gritty Southern-fried rock ‘n roll, a side of meaty power riffs and a dollop of raspy, down-home vocals (courtesy frontman James Trimble) topped off with some sweet and savory melodic hooks. There’s a endless supply of rootsy rock contenders out there, bands nursed on The Stones and Black Crowes and looking to rock the roadhouse, get some heads bobbin’ and butts shakin’. On their 3rd album Somewhere Beneath These Southern Skies The Guv’nahs revel in their retro-inspired influences but are also smart (and talented) enough to creatively raise the bar while they raise the roof. Southern Skies doesn’t do things in a radically different way. It just does them better. “3000 Miles” is good enough to stand on its own simply as a song — you can imagine it in any number of reincarnations: folk/rock jangler or straight up soul shaker as well as it is here as a Dixie-rock barn burner."
