"Trevor Montgomery laid down his first song over 10 years ago in San Francisco. His early music drew on the adventures as a young man laying down in box cars, losing himself in the woods in a psychotropic fog, and cheating death on more than one occasion. Now he lays tile during the day — a skilled tile setter, arranging wood, marble, and porcelain squares in perfect lines with meticulous precision. The metaphor to his music pretty much writes itself. Montgomery released his first solo album, The Trickster, as Lazarus in 2008; album was inspired by his youth, wandering in the woods, riding trains, taking meth and heavy psychedelics, and narrowly cheating death on more than one occasion. On Navigated Like the Swan, his debut under the Young Moon moniker, he emerges like a shaman from the woods of his youth — his darkness is filled with light, cynicism and macabre fixations washed away by a revitalizing and intoxicating love. His song “A Reason” is a skillful arrangement of a post-narcotic blues ballad. The beat of a cheap Cassio snare in the background sounds lonely, but it’s a comforting song, as Montgomery sings “Warm in your sweet breezes/girl I’m comin’ after you.”"
